Our top Rental home booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Close to the Beach! 3 Bed 3 Bath Townhouse with free tennis\/pickleball! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your trip.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
