Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • To get the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Snowbird/dog-friendly villa with WiFi, 2 patios, & grill + pool/ beach access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
