Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 2 bedroom/3 bathroom townhouse style villa in Palmetto Dunes with lagoon view has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you crave, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
