Strategies to get the best rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To get the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning and choosing the perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sea Pines Treehouse steps to Harbour Town on Deer Island has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
