Rental home tips:
Sticking to your budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the perfectrental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful condo with pool, tennis, balcony, central AC, & washer/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
