How to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book the rightvacation home:
- First, have your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront condo with WiFi, pool, hot tub & beach access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
