Strategies for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Stunning Condo in Plantation Club with Views of the Golf Course and On-site Amenities! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, email the property management company before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
