Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Perfect Location for a Family Vacation! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your group.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. text the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
