How to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lovely Two Bedroom Condominium with Ocean Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
