How to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking a perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Expansive Private Oceanfront Home with Vaulted Ceilings and Private Pool! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
