Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. You are going to love this completely remodeled villa!!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
