Our top Hilton Head vacation rental tips:
Finding the best value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the best rental home:
- First, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Bright home with outdoor pool, on-site golf, tennis & beach access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
