How to book the best rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Modern Condo with Shared Pool and Hot Tub, Lagoon View, and Nearby Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
