How to find the best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the best rental:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Modern Condo with Shared Pool and Hot Tub, Lagoon View, and Nearby Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
