Booking the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing and booking the bestrental home:

  • Start by having your family select trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Marriott's Sunset Pointe at Shelter Cove - Spacious 2 Bedroom has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
