Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectvacation home:
- To start, have your group decide on dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Cozy oceanfront villa, tennis courts, hot tub, shared pool and ocean view has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
