Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- First, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Marriott's Sunset Pointe at Shelter Cove - Spacious 2 Bedroom has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
