Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking your Hilton Head rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Stunning, coastal chic two bedroom, two bathroom villa in Palmetto Dunes!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
