Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lovely Townhouse with WiFi, Lagoon View, Pool, Hot Tub & More has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
