Getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the bestrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Large Three Bedroom Villa Overlooking the George Fazio Golf Course! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
