Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the right Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Select vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Gorgeous oceanfront condo with new kitchen & bathroom, pool view, steps to beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
