Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Amazing oceanfront condo with pool, hot tub, tennis, fitness area, & W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your group.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
