How to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing the best Hilton Head rental home:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Charming Villa with Ocean Views, Pool, & Hot Tub - Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
