Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Charming condo near beach & Harbour Town with full kitchen, balcony has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
