Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Spacious condo with pool, tennis courts, & golf on-site has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
