Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious condo w\/ shared pool and golf on-site Near the ocean has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
