How to find the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Getting the best value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 1st Floor Farmhouse Beach Nest has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
