Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- To start, have your group commit to date ranges and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Spacious lagoon-view condo with tennis, outdoor pool, beach access, balcony has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
