Strategies to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • To start, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Beautifully renovated 1 bedroom villa with shared pool- ocean views has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
