Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Beautifully renovated villa with stunning views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
