Our top Vacation rental home tips:

When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Choose your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Second-Floor Condo w/Free WiFi, Shared Pool, Hot Tub, Balcony, Golf Course View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
