Our top Hilton Head vacation rental tips:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Hilton Head Vacation Rental, Oceanfront Community! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you simply love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
