Tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Relaxing condo with heated/chilled pool, easy beach access, patio, & W/D has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
