Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Reserve your Hilton Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in Hilton Head:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Panoramic views of the inter-coastal waterway Broad Creek! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
