How to book the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Start by having your group commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Large Golf Course Villa with Lots of Space for Everyone! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
