How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Hilton Head rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautifully Updated Home with Extraordinary Lagoon and Golf Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
