Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coastal cottage with private pool, patio, firepit, AC, & W\/D - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
