Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Dog-Friendly Home Near Golf & Beach w\/Shared Pool, Gated Back Deck, & Fast WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
