Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Book your Hilton Head rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

How to pick the best vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sunset Rentals
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
