Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Ideal Hilton Head vacation rental for family gatherings! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
