Vacation rental tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick your Hilton Head rental home:
- Start by having your group select trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 3rd-floor condo with balcony, lagoon views, pools, tennis courts, & beach access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
