Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect rental:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Renovated spring 2019, villa with shared outdoor pool - just 400' from ocean has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
