Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Large Home with Panoramic Views of Robert Trent Jones Golf Course and Lagoon! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
