- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for your stay:

- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
