Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Recently updated, steps to the beach and The Dunes House Restaurant! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Tips for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
