Tips to get the perfect rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Just Steps to the Beach and Oceanfront Bar and Grill! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
