Finding the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Large Two Bedroom Villa Located Steps From the Pool! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
