Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Two Bedroom Villa Five Minute Walk to the Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
