Getting the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 2 bed\/3 bath villa, spacious and updated townhouse with view of the pool has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
