How to book the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
How to select the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. New 2-story townhouse with screened patio, grill, fireplace, fast WiFi, W\/D, AC has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
