Our top Hilton Head rental home tips:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best rental home:
- To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. New to the Rental Market! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
